"Above & Below", a production directed by Antonia Maria Josefine Ackermans in the Netherlands, is a short film that immerses us in a gripping story of hope and action in the midst of the coral reef crisis on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
The film tells the story of Laura, Pablo and their faithful companion ChauCha, who, moved by the devastation they are witnessing in the coral reefs of the Ballena Marine National Park, decide to take bold action to revitalise these dying ecosystems.
"Above & Below" takes us on a journey both above and below the surface, where Laura and Pablo immerse themselves in the beautiful, but deteriorating, underwater world of coral reefs. As they explore the depths, they face the stark reality of coral degradation and the decline of marine life.
However, they do not remain simply bystanders. Driven by a deep passion for conservation and a desire to make a difference, Laura and Pablo decide to take concrete action to revitalise coral reefs. Throughout the short film, we watch as they embark on an exciting journey of marine restoration.
