In 2020, the Francisco Pizarro Special Prize was awarded to Jorge Candan, an internationally prominent professional in the field of underwater imaging.
With more than 25 years of experience, Jorge has focused his career on the production of documentaries, photography and artistic projects both in the underwater and terrestrial world. His work, always with a clear vocation for scientific dissemination and conservation, has been broadcast on national and international television channels such as TVE, National Geographic and CCTV-China, and has been published in prestigious specialised media.
A native of Vigo, he has been Underwater Video World Champion on two occasions (2010 and 2019), in addition to more than fifty awards in festivals and competitions around the world. He has collaborated with the Oceana Foundation, universities and research centres in marine research and dissemination projects, and has worked in underwater filming for cinema and television.
His numerous awards include the Prisma Prize for Scientific Dissemination, the Philippe Cousteau Museum Award, the Special Jury Prize in Marseille, and the Gold Badge for Sporting Merit from FEGAS.
