20 editions endorse the success of our event in EIBAR. This morning, CIMASUB 2021 in EIBAR was presented at a press conference held at the Eibar sports club. Alberto Albístegui, councillor for the environment, David Sánchez, director of the International Underwater Film Series, Iñaki Osoro, president of the sports club, and Javier Escudero and Arrate Eraso, heads of the underwater commission, were in charge of presenting all the activities that will take place during the first week of December.
"When love for the sea can do it all" is the slogan that introduces the 20th edition of the EIBAR International Underwater Film Series. Throughout the week, different events will be held, always with free admission until full capacity is reached. On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the best short films and documentaries, presented in competition in this edition, will be screened at the COLISEO ANTZOKIA at 19h. On December 1st, the Txikiciclo for schools will be held, and on December 4th, the "Txikiciclo en familia" will be held at 10h. in the COLISEO ANTZOKIA. And the photographic exhibition will be open from 5 to 19 December at the UNTZAGA pensioners' home.
Everything is ready to enjoy another great edition of CIMASUB. A competition that has earned its prestige for its inherent capacity to bring together passion, will, talent and an infinite love for the Sea. The intensity of the short films generates a great impact on the spectator, both for their images and for the message they transmit. Images that are difficult to film, with often unknown species, that only on exclusive occasions, such as CIMASUB, can be enjoyed on the big screen, and that only the best videographers are capable of showing, thanks to the large number of hours they spend underwater. Situations that are difficult to assimilate nowadays, due to their cruelty and the attitude that human beings show when they mistreat the sea as they do. Thanks to the attraction of presenting the work of the professionals of the underwater camera in such an acclaimed event as the San Sebastian International Underwater Film Series, we will be able to see premieres on the screen for the first time.
The screenings, at the Coliseum Antzokia
The screenings on 1, 2 and 3 December include a total of 27 short films and 3 documentaries. We will take a trip back in time to discover the difference between the state of our funds today and 50 years ago. We will get to know the wildest Bay of Biscay and the refuge of the manta rays in the Canary Islands. We will also enjoy the most spectacular seabed in the Mediterranean, and we will dive in Indonesian waters.
On the one hand, increasingly, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, expels or exterminates biodiversity, makes it very difficult or impossible, together with the more than evident unsustainable overexploitation of fishing resources, blinded by bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, threatens the future of generations to come. And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Often so small and tiny that it remains hidden to most eyes, and at other times, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty.
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
The exhibition of the best photographs submitted to the competition will be open. Of the more than 300 photographs submitted, we will exhibit the 24 most striking ones. The exhibition will be open at the UNTZAGA retirement home from 5 to 19 December. These photographs will take us to all the underwater depths of the world and will show us the most curious and striking species.
Our aim is to have the Exhibition of the best photographs open for as many days and in as many places as possible throughout the year. Every year the number of photographs submitted to the competition grows, exceeding three hundred, coming from all corners of the planet. We have photographs from Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, France, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, Serbia, etc.
The Txikiciclo as a family, in the Coliseo Antzokia
Saturday 4 December at 10:00 am at the Coliseo Antzokia. Free entry until full capacity is reached.
The aim of this event is to raise awareness among families that it is in everyone's hands to help alleviate climate change and save our seas and oceans. To do this we will explain the problem of the current situation and what the solutions are. Education is the solution. You can't love what you don't know, that's why we dedicate all our efforts to reach the youngest.
The UNDERWATER TXIKICICLE is the equivalent of new blue enthusiasts, who will forge an indestructible bond with their blue planet and will be the new direct ambassadors of marine biodiversity, who will drive the new awareness to recover the sea's balance.
This UNDERWATER TXIKICICLE is an initiative that the Real Sociedad Fundazioa wants to promote, as it is part of the training in values it works for, in this case, promoting respect for the sea and the environment.
Screenings and talks,
The aim of the TXIKICICLO SUBMARINO is to teach respect for the sea and the environment. To this end, we offer the following content in a session lasting approximately one hour:
Screening of short films related to the current situation of the sea and how we must act to protect it. The aim is to raise awareness of the seabed and teach people to respect and care for it.
Talk focused on the problem of climate change and above all on the solutions we have in our hands to solve such a serious situation. All of this will be presented by professionals from the marine/underwater world.
The Txikiciclo for schools
On 1 December at 10:00 a.m. in the Coliseo Antzokia. Recommended for boys and girls between 10 and 12 years old, 5th and 6th years of Primary Education.
An important pillar of this event is the SUBMARINE TXIKICICLO for boys and girls, to whom we will leave a difficult legacy, and who, without a doubt, are the last hope, and will be the driving force behind the necessary change in sensitivity. They will be able to discover this fascinating and marvellous underwater world.
Previously, educational material has been provided to the participating schools so that they can do some preliminary work in their classes before attending the event. A very specific proposal has been given to the teachers with the activities to be carried out and methodological guidelines, supported by audiovisual material. This proposal can be developed in the classroom.
The aim is to make them aware of the environmental situation and to develop attitudes of healthy and responsible consumption, and of respect and care for the environment, in order to participate responsibly in its management. To work on personal responsibility and decision-making about the impact on the planet in our daily lives. Make personal and collective decisions based on scientific knowledge.
