SAN SEBASTIAN INTERNATIONAL UNDERWATER FILM FESTIVAL
The Official CIMASUB 2026 Programme Is Here! Celebrating 50 Editions of Discovering the Underwater World Together
The Donostia–San Sebastián International Underwater Film Festival (CIMASUB) presents the official programme for its 50th edition, taking place on 12, 13 and 14 November at the Teatro Principal. Three days of underwater cinema, photography, emotion and environmental awareness to celebrate half a century of sharing our passion for the ocean.
This year, CIMASUB celebrates a very special milestone. Since its beginnings in 1975, thanks to the Underwater Activities Section of Real Sociedad, the festival has come a long way, bringing the beauty and fragility of our oceans closer to thousands of people. Fifty editions later, we continue discovering together a fascinating world that never ceases to amaze us.
Three Sessions to Discover, Be Inspired and Reflect
On 12, 13 and 14 November, at 7:00 p.m., the Teatro Principal will host the traditional Bronze, Silver and Gold sessions, featuring a selection of 22 audiovisual works by national and international filmmakers.
An extraordinary journey across the world's oceans, taking us from the tropical reefs of the Philippines and Indonesia to the waters of the Canary Islands, the great marine sanctuaries of the Pacific and the frozen landscapes of the polar regions.
The programme combines spectacular underwater footage, astonishing marine wildlife behaviour, human stories and documentaries that invite us to reflect on the environmental challenges facing our oceans.
A Golden Night to Celebrate 50 Editions
Saturday, 14 November, promises to be an especially moving occasion. The Gold Session will feature a slideshow showcasing the 100 best photographs from the competition, screenings of the Gold Railing Award-winning works in their respective categories, and a special tribute to the people who have made CIMASUB’s 50-year history possible.
The evening will culminate in the traditional awards ceremony, recognising the talent and dedication of this year's outstanding underwater photographers and filmmakers.
Much More Than Underwater Cinema
As always, CIMASUB goes far beyond the big screen. Photography exhibitions at the Aquarium, Garbera, Kirol Etxea and Intxaurrondo will bring some of the most spectacular images from the international competition closer to the public.
In addition, Txikiziklo Submarino, our educational programme, will once again introduce schoolchildren to the ocean, combining cinema, education and environmental awareness to inspire curiosity and respect for marine life among younger generations.
Join Us in Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary!
Admission to all three film sessions is free, with tickets available on the day of each screening. Tickets can be collected in the morning at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and in the afternoon at the Teatro Principal, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., subject to availability.
