Underwater cinema on board the Mater throughout July as part of the Zero Zabor Uretan campaign

The Zero Zabor Uretan (Zero Garbage in the Water) campaign comes to the Basque Coast in July aboard the Ecoactive Museum Ship Mater. This initiative, now in its fifth edition, aims to raise awareness of the problem of marine litter and promote waste prevention under the slogan "The best waste, the waste that is not generated". Various activities will be carried out to involve citizens in the conservation of the marine environment, highlighting the importance of waste reduction, as 80% of marine litter comes from waste management on land and lack of awareness.

This morning in Bilbao, it has been presented at a press conference with the presence of Izaskun Suberbiola Director of the Ecoactive Museum Ship MATER and responsible for the campaign ZERO ZABOR URETAN, Aitor Aldasoro Deputy Minister of Environment and Sustainability of the Basque Government, Alex Peláez Astorkia Director General of Environment of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Sara Güemes Head of the Libera project, Javier Hurtado Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs of the Basque Government, David Sánchez Carretero Director of the Donostia International Underwater Film Series (CIMASUB), Miren Cajaraville Professor of Cell Biology and head researcher at the Plentzia PiE marine station of the UPV/EHU. Víctor Trimiño Director of Sustainability of the Bilbao City Council and Jon Ruigomez Director of the Itsasmuseum of Bilbao.

Among the programmed activities, the open-air underwater film sessions that will take place on board the Mater stand out. Thanks to the collaboration with the International Underwater Film Series of Donostia-San Sebastian (CIMASUB), impressive underwater images will be screened in the ports of:

• Bilbao: 5th July
• Ondarroa: 12th July
• Mutriku: 17th July
• Getaria: 23rd July

The sessions will start at 22:30, as soon as it gets dark. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy summer cinema in a unique setting and immerse yourself in the beauty and importance of the underwater world.

In addition to the underwater cinema, there will be various educational and participatory activities, such as guided tours of the Museum Ship, creative recycling workshops, fishing trips for marine litter, and marches with sea giants to raise awareness of the problem of waste. There will also be awareness-raising talks, exhibitions of posters created by children, and collaboration with local businesses to promote responsible consumption. All this with the aim of empowering citizens in the fight against marine litter and promoting the conservation of the marine environment.
