The organizers of the Donostia–San Sebastián International Underwater Film Festival (CIMASUB) are pleased to announce that the call for entries for the CIMASUB 2026 competition is now officially open. This year is no ordinary year: we are celebrating our 50th anniversary, a milestone marking half a century of passion for the sea, imagery, and outreach.
Once again, we invite photographers, filmmakers, and lovers of the underwater world from across the globe to share their underwater perspectives. We are seeking works that inspire, that move us, and that bring us closer to the beauty, biodiversity, and fragility of our oceans.
The submission period will remain open until September 8, 2026, and entries may include photo galleries, short films, and documentaries.
For this very special edition, we wanted to rise to the occasion of our 50th anniversary. Thanks to the support of new sponsors, CIMASUB 2026 will feature over €37,000 in prizes, reinforcing our commitment to creators. Additionally, all gold winners in each category will receive a trip as part of their prize, as will the audiovisual work winning the Ecological Awareness Award, making this edition the most ambitious to date.
In addition to the nearly €5,000 in cash prizes and the surprises we’ll be revealing in the coming months, some of the most notable prizes include unique experiences offered by our sponsors, such as liveaboard cruises with S.M.Y. Ondina through Indonesia, the spectacular prize from Seven Seas featuring a spot on their exclusive itineraries, the diving stay at Atmosphere Resorts & Spa, the complete experience at Anilao Beach & Dive Resort, and the stay at Lembeh Resort in Sulawesi. Trips and experiences in some of the world’s most breathtaking underwater destinations.
Our goal remains unchanged from day one: to raise awareness of the underwater world, foster environmental consciousness through imagery, and inspire the public by revealing what lies beneath the sea’s surface. Because we only protect what we love, and we only love what we know.

The winners will be announced in October, and the festival will take place on November 12, 13, and 14, 2026, at the Teatro Principal in Donostia–San Sebastián, where we will once again enjoy the magic of underwater cinema together on the big screen.
