An impressive CIMASUB arrives in Lasarte-Oria for its 12th edition
Once again this year we present the programme of the 12th edition of the LASARTE-ORIA International Underwater Film Series, the CIMASUB 2020. This event continues to be the best way to take a trip around the planet, visiting the most spectacular seabed and showing us the global nature of the problem of marine pollution and climate change. PROJECTIONS:
On 10, 17 and 24 February, screenings of the best of international underwater cinema with 27 short films and 4 documentaries spread over the three days. It will take place in the Manuel Lekuona cultural centre, from 19:00 to 20:30.
The quality of the works presented grows every year, both visually and narratively. The format is changing, the number of short films is growing and the intensity of their presentation is increasing. Documentaries have more and more rhythm, we are moving away from the classic slower documentary, to enter into a more dynamic and entertaining narrative. All of this means that people are better reached and a greater number of audiences are attracted. PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION:
We will have open the Exhibition of the best photographs presented to this year's CIMASUB, which will transport us to all the underwater depths of the world and will show us the most curious and striking species. All thanks to the sponsorship of AQUARIUM DONOSTIA.
Of the 38 galleries presented from all over the world, 10 of them with photographs of the Cantabrian Sea, we have more than 200 photographs. Of all these, we exhibit 23 of the best photographs submitted, highlighting of course those of the winners of the competition. TXIKICICLO:
For those schools that are interested, we offer the TXIKICICLO, where primary school students will enjoy the projection of short films and a talk with professionals from the underwater world. The aim of this event is to make them aware that it is in everyone's hands to help alleviate climate change and save our seas and oceans. To do so, we will explain the problem of the current situation and what the solutions are.
Education is the solution. You can't love what you don't know, that's why we dedicate all our efforts to reach the youngest. Every year we have been increasing the number of pupils who visit the Txikiciclo, both in Donosti and in other towns where we develop it. In 2018 we received 700 children, in 2019 we have reached more than 1,200 children, and in 2020 we will increase these figures as, thanks to the organisation of the Real Sociedad Foundation and the collaboration of the GAEA Elkartea Association, we will visit schools and other towns that open their doors to us. In Lasarte-Oria, around 200 children will enjoy this experience. As always, all the events and screenings are FREE ENTRANCE until full capacity is reached.
We want to show our great satisfaction and motivation with the progress of the Cycle. Last year the audience grew and we received a much younger audience. More than 4.000 people in all the events of the Cycle during the whole year. We have increased our coverage, in addition to Donostia-San Sebastian (43 editions), Lasarte-Oria (12 editions), Irun (28 editions) we have held the cycle in Errenteria and Lezo... and we are closing dates for 2020 with Eibar, Zumaia and Hondarribia, among others.
After 43 editions, the Underwater Film Series is at one of its best moments... For 43 editions we have been making the seabed known, showing all its beauty from all corners of the planet... But we are aware that unfortunately the current interest in the seabed is not due to the wonders it hides, but rather because of the disaster we have caused in it. Edition after edition, marine pollution has been taking centre stage in the works that amateurs and professionals of the underwater image sector have presented in our Cycle. So much so, that most of the works now leave a space to talk about marine litter or even make it the central theme. We continue to reward the best works with ecological denouncements, as those who spend most time underwater have a lot to tell, and that message must reach everyone to achieve a real, serious and definitive awareness.
We continue to be the International Underwater Film Series of reference. We have received works from countries from several continents. Among which we have winners from France, Argentina, Italy, among others, and also national ones, from Euskadi, Navarra, Cantabria, Canary Islands, Madrid, Catalonia, among others. This year with a special tribute to our underwater image professional with the greatest international impact Rafael Herrero Massieu.
Thanks as always to our sponsors, Lasarte-Oria Town Council, the Danok Kide Association and the Real Sociedad de Fútbol Foundation. Thanks to all of them, we are able to offer CIMASUB with FREE ENTRANCE to the entire programme.
