"When love for the sea can do it all" is the slogan that introduces the 23rd edition of the International Underwater Film Series at DEBA. Throughout the event, different events will be held, always with free admission until full capacity is reached (it is not necessary to purchase a ticket in advance). On the 9th, 10th and 11th at 19h. the best short films and documentaries, presented in competition in this edition, will be screened in KULTUR Elkartea. On the 9th and 10th of June, the "Txikiciclo for schools" will be held at 10:00h. in KULTUR Elkartea. And the photographic exhibition will be open from the 3rd until the 19th of June in the town hall.
Everything is ready to enjoy another great edition of CIMASUB. A competition that has earned its prestige for its inherent capacity to bring together passion, will, talent and an infinite love for the Sea. The intensity of the short films generates a great impact on the spectator, both for their images and for the message they transmit. Images that are difficult to film, with often unknown species, that only on exclusive occasions, such as CIMASUB, can be enjoyed on the big screen, and that only the best videographers are able to show, thanks to the large number of hours they spend underwater. Situations that are difficult to assimilate nowadays, due to their cruelty and the attitude that human beings show when they mistreat the sea as they do. Thanks to the attraction of presenting the work of the professionals of the underwater camera in such an acclaimed event as the San Sebastian International Underwater Film Series, we will be able to see premieres on screen for the first time.
The screenings
Admission is free until full capacity is reached (it is not necessary to purchase an invitation in advance). The screenings on 9, 10 and 11 June include a total of 27 short films and 3 documentaries. We will take a trip back in time to see the difference in the state of our funds, today and 50 years ago. We will get to know the wildest Bay of Biscay and the refuge of the manta rays in the Canary Islands. We will also enjoy the most spectacular seabed in the Mediterranean, and we will dive in Indonesian waters.
On the one hand, increasingly, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, expels or exterminates biodiversity, makes it very difficult or impossible, together with the more than evident unsustainable overexploitation of fishing resources, blinded by bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, threatens the future of generations to come. And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Often so small and tiny that it remains hidden to most eyes, and at other times, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty.
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
The photographic exhibition
The exhibition of the best photographs submitted to this year's CIMASUB will be open in the town hall from the 3rd to the 19th of June, every day from 17:00 to 20:00h.
24 enlarged photographs that will transport us to all the underwater depths of the world. They will show us the most curious and striking species, in situations rarely seen. The beauty of nature and the cruelty of man's attitude towards it, together in the same exhibition.
The Underwater Txikiciclo for schools
On 9 and 10 June at 10:00 a.m. at KULTUR Elkartean. Recommended for boys and girls between 10 and 12 years old, 5th and 6th years of Primary Education.
An important pillar of this event is the SUBMARINE TXIKICICLO for boys and girls, to whom we will leave a difficult legacy, and who, without a doubt, are the last hope, and will be the driving force behind the necessary change in sensitivity. They will be able to discover this fascinating and wonderful underwater world.
Previously, educational material has been provided to the participating schools so that they can do some preliminary work in their classes before attending the event. A very specific proposal has been given to the teachers with the activities to be carried out and methodological guidelines, supported by audiovisual material. This proposal can be developed in the classroom.
The aim is to make them aware of the environmental situation and to develop attitudes of healthy and responsible consumption, and of respect and care for the environment, in order to participate responsibly in its management. To work on personal responsibility and decision-making about the impact on the planet in our daily lives. Make personal and collective decisions based on scientific knowledge.
