CIMASUB 2024 Photo Exhibitions: A window to the secrets of the ocean
Throughout the month of November, CIMASUB 2024 will be offering a series of photographic exhibitions that will allow the public to immerse themselves in the beauty of the underwater world. The exhibitions will be available at various venues in San Sebastian, such as the Nautilus room at the Aquarium (until 8 December), the Garbera shopping centre (until 27 November) and the Kirol Etxea at the Reale Arena (until 24 November).
These exhibitions are a unique opportunity to admire the 24 best photographs entered in the festival's annual competition. The selected images transport the viewer to some of the world's most spectacular seascapes, from colourful coral reefs to dark depths inhabited by mysterious creatures. The award-winning photographers include Joan Barcia Ubeda, whose work received the Gold Banister and the PADI award, and Merche Llobera, winner of the Silver Banister. Also recognised are the works of Rowan Dear, awarded the Bronze Banister, Diego Carral Maceiras, who received the IUCN award for his environmental commitment, and Daniel Landa, winner of the EITB prize for the best gallery in the Cantabrian Sea.
The exhibition includes not only the winners of the competition, but also internationally renowned artists such as Gaetano Gargiulo (Australia), Rowan Dear (Gales-Australia), Jenny Stock (Reino Unido), Massimo Giorgetta (Italia), Julio Martínez (Murcia), Michal Štros (Chequia), Ángel Díaz Ruiz (Cantabria), Paloma Olive Barrau (Tenerife), Luc Rooman (Bélgica), Salvatore Gambacurta (Italia), Daniel Sly (Australia), José Luis González Guerra (Madrid), Gustavo Rivera Herrera (Tenerife), Pietro Cremone (Italia), Alberto Díaz (Tenerife), Andrey Shpatak (Rusia), Alejandro Yumar Arenas (Tenerife), Franco Tulli (Italia), Michele Solca (Italia), Natalia Athinaiou (Grecia), Tom Shlesinger (Israel), Nicholas Samaras (Grecia), Ernesto Cordella (Italia), Charly Clerisse (Francia), Marco Spinelli (Italia), Carlos Ortolá Orihuel (Alicante), Paul Eijkemans (Alemania), Alex Basha (Las Palmas), Andrea Spinelli (Italia), Damián Ramos Díaz (Tenerife), and Miguel Ángel Navarrete (Málaga).
Each of the photographs on display is a masterpiece that captures the beauty and complexity of marine ecosystems, and invites us to reflect on the importance of their conservation.
These images not only have an aesthetic value, but also a profound educational impact. By showing the fragility of underwater habitats and the species that inhabit them, the exhibitions seek to raise awareness of the urgency of protecting our oceans. At a time when climate change and pollution are endangering marine life, these photographs are a visual reminder of what is at stake.
Furthermore, CIMASUB aims to take this photographic exhibition to other places in Gipuzkoa throughout the year, so that more people can enjoy it and understand the importance of caring for the oceans. The exhibition is ultimately a tribute to the art of underwater photography and a celebration of the photographers who, through their work, help us to see the world from a new perspective.
In conclusion, the CIMASUB 2024 photo exhibitions offer a visual and educational experience that connects the public with the wonders of the ocean. An unmissable opportunity to admire the talent of the best underwater photographers and to reflect on the importance of environmental conservation.
