CIMASUB visits LASARTE-ORIA during the month of February
This morning a press conference was held to present the 14th edition of the International Cycle of Underwater Cinema in Lasarte-Oria. Agustín Valdivia, mayor of Lasarte-Oria, the vice-president of the Danok Kide association, Jesús Eguizabar and David Sánchez, director of CIMASUB were in charge of presenting all the events that will take place during the month of February at the Manuel Lekuona cultural centre.
Admission will be free, as always, and tickets can be collected each day when entering the hall.
"When love for the sea can do it all" is the slogan that introduces the 14th edition of the Lasarte-Oria International Underwater Film Series. Throughout the event, different events will be held, always with free admission until full capacity is reached. On the 7th, 14th and 21st at 19h. the best short films and documentaries, presented in competition in this edition, will be screened at the cultural centre. On the 7th of January, the "Txikiciclo for schools" will be held at 10 a.m. in the cultural centre. And the photographic exhibition will be open from the 7th until the 25th of February in the cafeteria of the Casa de Cultura.
The screenings, at the Casa de Cultura
The screenings on 7, 14 and 21 February include a total of 27 short films and 3 documentaries. We will take a trip back in time to see the difference between the state of our collections today and 50 years ago. We will get to know the wildest Bay of Biscay and the refuge of the manta rays in the Canary Islands. We will also enjoy the most spectacular seabed in the Mediterranean, and we will dive in Indonesian waters.
On the one hand, increasingly, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, expels or exterminates biodiversity, makes it very difficult or impossible, together with the more than evident unsustainable overexploitation of fishing resources, blinded by bread for today, and hunger for tomorrow, threaten the future of generations to come. And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Often so small and tiny that it remains hidden to most eyes, and at other times, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty.
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
The photo exhibition
The exhibition of the best photographs submitted to this year's CIMASUB will be open in the Manuel Lekuona cafeteria from the 7th to the 25th of February.
24 enlarged photographs that will take us to all the underwater depths of the world. They will show us the most curious and striking species, in situations rarely seen. The beauty of nature and the cruelty of man's attitude towards it, together in the same exhibition.
The Txikiciclo for schools
On 7 February at 10:00 a.m. at the cultural centre. Recommended for children between 10 and 12 years old, 5th and 6th years of Primary Education. Previously, didactic material has been provided to the participating schools so that they can do some preliminary work in their classes before attending the event. A very specific proposal was given to the teachers with the activities to be carried out and methodological guidelines, supported by audiovisual material. This proposal can be developed in the classroom.
The aim of the TXIKICICLO SUBMARINO is to educate in respect for the sea and the environment. To do this, we offer a session of approximately one hour, with a screening of short films related to the current situation of the sea and a talk focused on the problem of climate change given by the Mater Museo team.
