LASARTE-ORIA presents its 15th edition of CIMASUB in a press conference
CIMASUB, the International Underwater Film Series, returns to Lasarte-Oria for its 15th edition, to be held at the Manuel Lekuona Cultural Centre. Agustín Valdivia, mayor of Lasarte-Oria, the vice-president of the Danok Kide association, Jesús Eguizabar, Juantxi Ugarte, culture technician, Maite Iglesias, 3rd Deputy Mayor and president of the culture and education committee, and David Sánchez, director of CIMASUB, have been in charge of presenting all the activities that will be offered during the 3 weeks that the event will last:
FILM SHOWINGS, with free admission, will be on the 6th, 13th and 20th of February at 19:00h. They include a total of 26 short films and 4 documentaries that will take us to underwater paradises all over the planet and will show us the harshness of the suffering we are causing to our seas.
The PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION, from 6 to 24 February in the cafeteria of the cultural centre, open from 17 to 21h., with enlargements of the best photographs presented at this year's CIMASUB.
The TXIKIZIKLO SUBMARINO for schools will be held at the Casa de Cultura at 10am on Monday 6th February, and is aimed at children aged between 10 and 12, in 5th and 6th years of Primary Education. The aim is to make them aware of the environmental situation and develop attitudes of healthy and responsible consumption, and respect and care for the environment, in order to participate responsibly in its management. The aim is to work on personal responsibility and decision-making about the impact on the planet in our daily lives and to make personal and collective decisions based on scientific knowledge.
At a time of special importance for the future of humanity when time is already running against us, the slogan "Now or never" is a cry for immediate action to change our way of thinking and our habits. It will raise awareness of the real situation of the oceans and the problems that invade them, without neglecting the wonders hidden in the seabed, many of which have yet to be discovered.
The event is organised by Subacuáticas Real Sociedad and sponsored by Lasarte-Oria Town Council and the parents' association DANOK-KIDE. Its aim is to make the underwater world known, and to raise awareness of respect and care for our seas and oceans, through the dissemination of audiovisual works.
Today, after 47 years of work, we have become the longest-running underwater film festival on the planet. CIMASUB is a world reference in underwater film festivals, receiving in competition more than 250 short films and documentaries from all over the world, more than 80 different countries in this last edition. This makes it a unique opportunity to enjoy on the big screen the best works in the sector, both in terms of quality and in terms of awareness-raising and marine environmental education.
