The 13th edition of the International Underwater Film Season of Lasarte-Oria comes to an end, after 3 days of screenings, the Txikiciclo for the pupils of the schools of Sasoeta and Zumaburu, and the exhibition of photographs that will remain open until next Friday 26th from 17:00 to 20:50 in the Manuel Lekuona.
Once again this year we have been able to enjoy the great beauty and mystery hidden at the bottom of the seas and rivers of our planet. But we have also seen the sad and tremendous role that pollution is playing in all ecosystems. The harmful consequences this is having for all the plant and animal species whose respect is necessary for the survival of our seas, and with them our own survival.
In any case, the channel of communication between the ambassadors of the Sea, underwater photographers and videographers, which flows every year through CIMASUB, making known the two faces of the same planet, has reached the expectant public, perhaps in many cases discoverers, for the first time, of the universe that vibrates and struggles to live underwater. And once again, its message of help has reached the deepest feelings of the audience thanks to this event, which will return in February next year.
Thanks
The organisers, both Danok Kide and the culture department of Lasarte-Oria Town Council, the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad and the Real SociedadFoundation wish to express "our gratitude for the great response from all the citizens of Lasarte-Oria". Despite the current pandemic situation, the large number of people who have come to enjoy CIMASUB shows that interest in this event is growing. "The positive feedback we have received from the public motivates us to continue working towards our goal of raising awareness of what is happening at the bottom of the sea. We hope that this seed that we have left in each of the attendees will germinate and become a positive attitude, improving the relationship we have with our environment and the species that inhabit it". Also, from Subacuáticas Real Sociedad we want to show a "special thanks to the entire culture team for the great work they are doing to safeguard the safety of all those attending the event. The cinema is safe thanks to all the people working behind the scenes".
The figures
More than 300 people attended the 3 days of screenings where 27 short films and 2 documentaries were shown. More than 100 children enjoyed the TXIKICYCLE where they enjoyed 4 short films and 1 talk focused on climate change and advice on how to avoid it. The numerous visits to the photographic exhibition have been constant since it opened on the 8th, where you can see the 25 best photographs of the 345 that were submitted to the competition.
The TXIKICYCLE is currently being organised at the Landaberri ikastola, which was unable to attend at the Casa de Cultura. The Real Sociedad Foundation, as sponsor of this event, has been involved in making it possible due to the good relationship it has with Landaberri, as the ikastola collaborates in many other sporting events for children that take place in Zubieta. The Subacuáticas team and GAEA elkartea, presenters of the Txikiciclo, will travel to the ikastola as soon as the dates for the event are finalised.
