Underwater cinema sets sail in ERRENTERIA on the 14th, 15th and 17th of June
After the editions held between 1984 and 1988, and the three uninterrupted years from 2019 to the present, this year marks the eighth edition of the Errenteria International Underwater Film Series. Called CIMASUB, it is the perfect opportunity to take a trip around the planet, visiting the most spectacular seabed and showing us the global nature of the problem of marine pollution.
The International Underwater Film Series is an event that unites wills, consciences and a great deal of talent. With an eagerness to transmit and spread a special sensitivity for our planet. For this reason, it is an event in perfect harmony with the spectator, with whom it shares the gratifying sensations that this annual event of the underwater image makes you feel.
We invite you to take this fantastic underwater journey with us. As always, all the events and screenings programmed are FREE ENTRANCE until full capacity is reached, thanks to the sponsorship of the ERRENTERIA Town Council.
On the 14th, 15th and 17th of JUNE in "NIESSEN Kulturgunea" from 19:00 to 20:30 screenings of the best and most awarded international underwater cinema with 27 short films and 2 documentaries.
The quality of the works presented to this international underwater image competition grows every year, both visually and narratively. The number of short films and the intensity of their presentation is increasing. The documentaries are becoming more and more rhythmic, moving from the classic documentary to a more dynamic and entertaining narrative. All of this means that the spectator enjoys the screenings more and more, which is why each year attracts a larger and increasingly younger audience.
TXIKICYCLE FOR SCHOOLS
Sponsored by the Real Sociedad Fundazioa, the TXIKICYCLE, an event aimed at schools in the area, where students in 5th and 6th grade of primary school will enjoy the screening of short films and a talk with professionals from the underwater world. Due to the great interest in this event and the currently limited capacity, two sessions will be held in "NIESSEN Kulturgunea" on June 11th at 9:30 and on JUNE 15th at 11:00.
The aim of this event is to raise awareness among children that it is in everyone's hands to help alleviate climate change and save our seas and oceans. To do this, they will be shown the problem of the current situation and what the solutions are. You can't love what you don't know, that's why we dedicate all our efforts to reach the youngest children. Every year the number of pupils visiting the Txikiciclo has grown, both in Donosti and in other towns where it takes place. In 2018, 700 children attended, in 2019, more than 1,200, and in 2020 the numbers have been reduced due to the current health situation, but the objective for 2021, thanks to the organisation of the Royal Society Foundation and the collaboration of the GAEA Elkartea Association, is to increase these numbers by visiting schools and other towns that open their doors to raise awareness of the care and respect for our planet.
During this visit, the children will be able to enjoy:
Screening of several short films related to the care of the sea and the problem of marine litter.
Light | Víctor Sánchez Sayago | 3 minutes * Best young promising work (GUIF Award)
Save the oceans | Katja Kieslich | 3 minutes * Best work by a woman videographer (MATER BARCO MUSEO ECOACTIVO Award)
A sea of plastics | Enrique Talledo Ruiz | 5 minutes * Best work with ecological denouncement (WETSUITCARE Award)
Bali | Alex del Olmo Ramon | 4 minutes * Silver Handrail in Short Films
A presentation by professionals from the GAEA Elkartea Association.
As always, all events and screenings are FREE ENTRANCE until full capacity is reached. From the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad de Fútbol, as organisers, we would like to thank all the sponsors, collaborators and the town council of ERRENTERIA who make it possible every year for CIMASUB to see the light and make it possible for us to make such a wonderful journey to discover the most beautiful underwater depths and the sad reality of the suffering we are causing to this aquatic paradise, from the hands of the best professionals in underwater imaging worldwide.
Despite the atypical nature of the current situation, the International Underwater Film Series has spared no effort to maintain its most important event, the exhibition of the works presented in competition, deserving of the most prestigious awards. An event that owes its prestige to its inherent capacity to bring together passion, will, talent and an infinite love for the Sea.
The safety and health of the public is our priority and for this reason the organisation has made every effort to provide all the health guarantees at this difficult time.
In any case, the channel of communication between the ambassadors of the Sea, underwater photographers and videographers, which every year flows through CIMASUB, making known the two faces of the same planet "ocean", the lights and shadows that form the whole in which we live, will reach in one way or another the expectant public, perhaps discovering, for the first time, the universe that vibrates and struggles to live on the other side of the mirror. And that, once again, its clear message of help will reach the depths of our feelings. We are not doing something right and the works shown will be the silent cry of those who have no possibility of expressing themselves in our human language.
On the one hand, more and more, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, exterminates biodiversity, makes it impossible or very difficult, together with the more than evident overexploitation of fishing resources, unsustainable by all accounts, prisoners of the blindness of bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, which threaten the future of generations to come.
And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Many times, so small and tiny, that it remains hidden to most eyes, and others, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty. Undoubtedly the best option, you know, we protect what we love, don't we?
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
In this edition, a greater number of prizes have been put up for grabs, almost doubling the number of the previous edition. Some of the prizes were special, such as those for ecological denouncement, those taken by women or by promising young artists, resulting in greater participation and quality among the works presented, whose themes increasingly include images dedicated to reinforcing ecological awareness and empathy for the marine environment, on which we depend so much.
The TXIKICYCLE for children, to whom we will leave a difficult legacy and who, without a doubt, are the last hope, and will be the driving force behind the necessary change in sensitivity. They will be able to discover this fascinating and marvellous world of silence. A magical world where practically all beings can fly and move with subtle elegance. This means new lovers of the blue, who will forge an indestructible bond with their planet "water", and will be the new direct ambassadors of marine biodiversity, who will drive upwards the transformation of our mistakes in the new consciousness to recover the balance of the sea.
We invite you to take this fantastic underwater journey with us. As always, all events and screenings are programmed with FREE and NUMBERED ADMISSION until full capacity is reached. Tickets can be obtained at the reception of the Casa de Cultura. For security reasons, we recommend you to come to avoid crowds at the entrance at 19:00. Let's enjoy the underwater cinema with all the safety guarantees.
