Saturday 26th closing session in LEZO with the best of the International Underwater Film Series
This Saturday last session of the 1st edition of the International Underwater Film Series of LEZO, the CIMASUB 2019, which will be held in the GEZALA Auditorium (from 19:00 to 20:30h.).
In view of the serious problem we have with marine pollution and seeing that year after year there are more and more works that show us a denunciation of the large amount of rubbish that we have in the seabed, this year we have added prizes for the best works with ecological denunciation, both in photographs and in documentaries or short films. The result has been overwhelming, the filmmakers have a lot to tell and they have shown us that.
The selected works will take us to paradises such as the Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines, Mauritius, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, Egypt,... and of course, all our coasts... Canary Islands, Galicia, Tarragona, Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, Cantabria.
With the new features mentioned above, we aim to make the contents offered at CIMASUB more awareness-raising and to show the reality of the problem that our seas and oceans are suffering.
The screening of the best documentary with ecological denunciation, "HONDAR 2050" by the Italian Cesare Maglioni, stands out. In it we will take a tour, thanks to Carlos Arrola, a Basque plastic artist, who likes to surf on his beach. When he comes out of the water after surfing, he usually collects bits of plastic and rubbish that he finds on the sand and among the rocks, and takes them back to his studio. One day he realises that he has accumulated a lot of materials, rubbish with stories to tell, different ages and origins that have the common trait of having ended their paths on the same beach. Little by little, without realising it, Carlos begins a journey to raise his own awareness of the problem of marine litter, which will lead him to investigate why and how plastics end up in the sea, and why this also happens in the Basque Country. At the same time, as a way of expressing the frustration that this situation causes him, with this accumulated rubbish Carlos begins to create a series of plastic works where art is related to consumption, globalisation and the utilitarianism of our modern society. Travelling along the coast of Euskadi and Lapurdi in search of answers and solutions, Carlos will finally understand that in order to change the situation, the most difficult but also the most necessary thing is the change that happens within oneself, in one's habits and automatic customs, and that each one of us can do something to solve this common problem. The aim of TXIKICICLO is to educate our children to respect the sea and the environment. To make them think about the damage that rubbish and plastics are doing to the sea and the species that live in it. We seek to make them aware that it is in everyone's hands to help save our seas and oceans by recycling and making good use of disposable materials. Primary and secondary school students will enjoy the screening of short films and a talk with professionals from the underwater world, Maite Erauskin and Elsa Cuende from the GAEA Elkartea Association.
On behalf of the entire Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad de Fútbol, we would like to give special thanks to the sponsors and collaborators of CIMASUB, as without them it would be impossible to carry out all this work. Thanks to our sponsors: Rentería City Council, Real Sociedad Fundazioa, and GAEA Association.
Thanks to all of them, we can offer CIMASUB with FREE ENTRANCE to the entire programme.
