More than 2,500 pupils from Gipuzkoa took part in this educational tour in 2023 to promote ocean conservation.
This morning saw the start of the Txikiziklo Submarino, the first of five sessions that will be held throughout the week in the Aquarium auditorium. Around 600 primary school students from ten schools in San Sebastian will be the lucky visitors to this event, now in its eleventh year.
In an ongoing effort to foster appreciation and respect for the marine world among the youngest, the Txikiziklo Submarino is celebrating its eleventh edition, bringing together almost 600 primary school students from Donostia - San Sebastián on an exciting educational tour. The initiative, which has grown significantly over the last decade, thanks to the organisation of the Royal Society Foundation, strives to promote values and respect for the environment and aims to introduce children to the fascinating underwater world, instilling in them a love and respect for the oceans.
The event aims to raise awareness among children about the importance of contributing to mitigating climate change and saving our seas and oceans. It underlines the premise that you cannot love what you do not know, and therefore continuous efforts are made to reach out to the younger generations.
This year, the Txikiziklo Submarino will be held in the Aquarium auditorium from 13 to 17 November, starting at 10 am. The event is specifically designed for children aged between 10 and 12 years old, in 5th and 6th year of Primary Education. The experience, which includes lectures, viewing of underwater short films and a visit to the Aquarium, is not limited to these alone, as the educational centres have previously been provided with didactic material that includes activities and methodological guidelines, supported by audiovisual material, to enrich learning in the classroom before attending the event.
The main objective of this programme is to raise awareness among young people about the importance of preserving the environment and to encourage healthy and responsible consumption attitudes, as well as respect and care for the immediate environment. Participants will learn to make informed decisions about the impact on the planet in their daily lives, based on scientific knowledge.
