The long-awaited International Underwater Film Series culminates its exciting journey in ZUMAIA. On 18 October at 19:00h., the Aita Mari cinema becomes the host of a unique and free experience that will mark the end of this very special edition. This will be the last opportunity to immerse yourself in the works presented at CIMASUB, which began its journey in Donostia in November 2022 and has travelled to 20 locations as part of the CIMASUB TOUR. On this exclusive occasion, attendees will have the privilege of enjoying the most outstanding works of photographers and videographers from all over the world. These artists, motivated by their deep love of the sea, collaborate to present both the astonishing beauty of the oceans and their lamentable degradation. A special focus lies in highlighting the pressure we as humans exert on this crucial ecosystem, fundamental to life as a whole.
The underwater film screenings, which will be held at the Aita Mari Antzokia Cinema with free admission, will offer an unforgettable experience on 18 October at 19:00h. This selection will include 26 short films and 4 documentaries that will transport the audience to underwater paradises around the world, while illustrating the adverse impact we inflict on our seas. On the one hand, these screenings will denounce the negligent actions of mankind, which damage entire ecosystems, cause the disappearance of biodiversity and, in conjunction with the unsustainable exploitation of fish stocks, threaten the legacy of future generations. On the other hand, they will present a hopeful vision of a surprising universe that still survives in some areas of the planet, where wildlife continues to thrive. These spaces, often hidden from the eyes of many, manifest themselves in all their majesty and incredible beauty, captivating all who observe them.
The youngest visitors will also have their place in this underwater event. The Underwater Txikiziklo will take place at the Aita Mari Antzokia Cinema at 10 am on the 18th, aimed at 5th and 6th year Primary School students aged between 10 and 12. Previously, didactic material has been provided to the participating schools, with activities and methodological guidance, supported by audiovisual material, which will be carried out in the classroom before the event. The purpose is to promote environmental awareness among young people and develop attitudes of responsible consumption and respect for the environment, encouraging a conscious participation in its management. The programme aims to promote informed decision-making based on scientific knowledge and personal responsibility in relation to the impact on our planet in everyday life.
The photo exhibition, a key component of the festival, will be open from 11 to 22 October in Alondegia's Oxford Hall. Daily from 18:00 to 20:00, and also on weekends from 12:30 to 14:00, this exhibition will feature 24 stunning enlargements of underwater photographs. These images will transport visitors through the mysterious seabed around the world, highlighting unique species in rarely seen situations. The exhibition combines the innate beauty of nature with the harsh reality of human interaction with the environment. Of the approximately 300 photographs submitted, this edition will showcase the 24 most outstanding. Among them are the works of this year's winners, including names such as Luc Rooman (Belgium), Martin Broen (USA), Tom Shesinger (Israel), Plamena Mileva (Bulgaria), Aldo Gustavo Galante (Argentina) and Iñaki Alcalde (Gipuzkoa). CIMASUB promises a unique experience that connects the public with the majesty and fragility of the world's oceans.
