The underwater world has always captivated mankind with its beauty and mystery. Every year, the Donostia-San Sebastian International Underwater Film Series (CIMASUB) brings together filmmakers, photographers, divers and ocean lovers to celebrate and recognise the best visual works that capture the essence of the depths. In its 47th edition, CIMASUB stands out for the incorporation of new and distinguished members to the jury, further consolidating its prestige in the international community.
The CIMASUB organisers extend their sincere thanks to the members of the jury, whose dedication and hard work contribute to the continued success of this event. Each year, the jury faces a greater challenge due to the increasing number of submissions, all of which are characterised by their extraordinary quality. However, this team of professionals has demonstrated an unwavering ability to evaluate and select the best of the best.
Among the new members joining the jury this year are internationally renowned names in the field of underwater imaging:
Rafael Herrero Massieu: Director of Aquawork, a production company specialising in underwater filming. His experience as a cameraman with the BBC Natural History Unit on "Blue Planet II" speaks of his commitment to capturing marine life in all its majesty.
Francisco José Sánchez Saiz, Quico: A leading figure in the underwater field, former FEDAS image committee, who has organised numerous CEVISUB and NAFOSUB, and has been captain of the photo/videosub team in European championships. His experience and leadership have left an indelible mark on the underwater community.
Jose Antonio Garcia, Zica: Not only an expert photographer, but also a FEDAS/CMAS underwater photography and video jury trainer. His ability to capture the essence of the ocean has led him to win numerous national and international championships.
Roberto Suárez García: Like Quico, Roberto has excelled in his role as a former FEDAS image committee and organiser of CEVISUB and NAFOSUB and captain of the underwater photo/video team at European and World Championships.
Alongside these newcomers, CIMASUB also pays tribute to the veteran judges who have been an integral part of this event over the years. Esteban Toré, Carlos Villoch, Carlos Minguell, Jesús Insausti, Verónica Mateos and Iker Zubillaga, all of whom have contributed their experience and preparation in the evaluation of the works presented.
And of course, a very fond memory for our dear José Luis González, who played a fundamental role in the jury for many years. His dedication and passion for the ocean and the underwater image leave an indelible mark on the heart of this event.
The CIMASUB organising team is proud to have the opportunity to have a jury of such calibre and prestige. It is these influential figures that make it possible for CIMASUB to continue to be a beacon of inspiration and excellence in the world of film and underwater imaging. Thank you, team, for your unwavering dedication!
