FILM SCREENINGS:
On 8, 15 and 22 FEBRUARY from 19:00 to 20:30h. screenings of the best and most awarded of international underwater cinema with 27 short films and 2 documentaries.
PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION:
We will have the Exhibition of the 25 best photographs submitted to this year's CIMASUB open in the Manuel Lekuona cafeteria from the 8th until the 26th of February 2021. We will be transported to all the underwater depths of the world and will show us the most curious and striking species.
TXIKICYCLE FOR SCHOOLS
For schools that are interested, we offer the TXIKICYCLE, where primary school students will enjoy the projection of short films and a talk with professionals from the underwater world. This will be held on 8 FEBRUARY at 11:00. The aim of this event is to raise awareness that it is in everyone's hands to help alleviate climate change and save our seas and oceans. To do so, we will explain the problem of the current situation and what the solutions are. Organised by the Royal Society Foundation and the GAEA Elkartea Association.
The presentation ceremony took place yesterday in the cafeteria of the Casa de Cultura Manuel Lekuona. It was attended by the Mayor Agustín Valdivia, the President of Culture, Maite Iglesias, the representative of Danok Kide, Jesus Mari Egizabal and on behalf of the Underwater section of the Royal Society, David Sánchez Carretero.
Despite the atypical nature of the current situation, the International Underwater Film Series has spared no effort to maintain its most important event, the exhibition of the works presented in competition, worthy of the most prestigious awards. An event that owes its prestige to its inherent capacity to bring together passion, will, talent and an infinite love for the Sea.
The safety and health of the public is our priority and for this reason the organisation has made every effort to provide all the health guarantees at this difficult time.
In any case, the channel of communication between the ambassadors of the Sea, underwater photographers and videographers, which every year flows through CIMASUB, making known the two faces of the same planet "ocean", the lights and shadows that form the whole in which we live, will reach in one way or another the expectant public, perhaps discovering, for the first time, the universe that vibrates and struggles to live on the other side of the mirror. And that, once again, its clear message of help will reach the depths of our feelings. We are not doing something right and the works shown will be the silent cry of those who have no possibility of expressing themselves in our human language.
On the one hand, more and more, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, exterminates biodiversity, makes it impossible or very difficult, together with the more than evident overexploitation of fishing resources, unsustainable by all accounts, prisoners of the blindness of bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, which threaten the future of generations to come.
And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Many times, so small and tiny, that it remains hidden to most eyes, and others, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty. Undoubtedly the best option, you know, we protect what we love, don't we?
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
In this edition, a greater number of prizes have been put up for grabs, almost doubling the number of the previous edition. Some of the prizes were special, such as those for ecological denouncement, those taken by women or by promising young artists, resulting in greater participation and quality among the works presented, whose themes increasingly include images dedicated to reinforcing ecological awareness and empathy for the marine environment, on which we depend so much.
TXIKICYCLE is especially appropriate for children, to whom we will leave a difficult legacy, and who, without a doubt, are the last hope, and who will be the driving force behind the necessary change in sensitivity. They will be able to discover this fascinating and marvellous world of silence. A magical world where practically all beings can fly and move with subtle elegance. This means new lovers of the blue, who will forge an indestructible bond with their planet "water", and will be the new direct ambassadors of marine biodiversity, who will drive upwards the transformation of our mistakes in the new consciousness to recover the balance of the sea.
