The International Underwater Film Series is an event that unites wills, consciences and a great deal of talent. With an eagerness to transmit and spread a special sensitivity for our planet. That is why we are in perfect harmony with our sponsors, since we have been sharing the gratifying sensations that our annual underwater image event makes us feel.
From the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad de Fútbol, as organisers, we would like to thank all the sponsors and collaborators and the Hondarribia Town Council who make it possible every year for CIMASUB to see the light and make it possible for us to make this wonderful journey to discover the most beautiful underwater depths with the best professionals in underwater imaging worldwide.
After the previous editions held from 1984 to 1992 without interruption, in 1997 and last year in 2020, this year we are celebrating the 12th edition in Hondarribia.
PROJECTIONS:
On the 12th and 13th of MARCH from 19:00 to 20:30. screenings at ITSAS ETXEA, of the best and most awarded international underwater cinema with 21 short films and 1 documentary.
Despite the atypical nature of the current situation, the International Underwater Film Series has spared no effort to maintain its most important event, the screening of the works presented in competition, which have won the most prestigious awards. An event that owes its prestige to its inherent capacity to bring together passion, will, talent and an infinite love for the Sea.
The safety and health of the public is our priority and for this reason the organisation has made every effort to provide all the health guarantees at this difficult time.
In any case, the channel of communication between the ambassadors of the Sea, underwater photographers and videographers, which every year flows through CIMASUB, making known the two faces of the same planet "ocean", the lights and shadows that form the whole in which we live, will reach in one way or another the expectant public, perhaps discovering, for the first time, the universe that vibrates and struggles to live on the other side of the mirror. And that, once again, its clear message of help will reach the depths of our feelings. We are not doing something right and the works shown will be the silent cry of those who have no possibility of expressing themselves in our human language.
On the one hand, more and more, the denunciation of the crude reality of human clumsiness, which hurts and damages entire ecosystems, exterminates biodiversity, makes it impossible or very difficult, together with the more than evident overexploitation of fishing resources, unsustainable by all accounts, prisoners of the blindness of bread for today and hunger for tomorrow, which threaten the future of generations to come.
And on the other, the optimistic and hopeful vision of light and colour, the incredible universe that is still possible to find in some places of the planet, still healthy for the development of wildlife. Many times, so small and tiny, that it remains hidden to most eyes, and others, majestic and incredibly beautiful, flying over the infinite blue, enamouring and captivating everyone who gets to contemplate its delicate beauty. Undoubtedly the best option, you know, we protect what we love, don't we?
This duality, nothing less, is what shows us the immense talent that comes together at CIMASUB. An underwater current that beats in the hearts of Blue enthusiasts, from all the seas of the water planet, from the Pacific to the Bay of Biscay, from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, and from the North to the Baltic.
In this edition, a greater number of prizes have been put up for grabs, almost doubling the number of the previous edition. Some of the prizes were special, such as the ecological denunciation, those made by women or by promising young people, thus resulting in greater participation and quality among the works presented, whose themes increasingly include images dedicated to reinforcing ecological awareness and empathy for the marine environment, on which we depend so much.
