CIMASUB 2019 comes to an end with a large audience and lots of emotions
Yesterday we closed the 43rd edition of the Donostia - San Sebastián International Underwater Film Festival with two days full of emotion and great public attendance. In the morning the Txikiciclo for families filled the Aquarium auditorium to capacity and in the afternoon the closing gala at the Teatro Principal, with the screening of the best works of this edition, the tribute to Rafael Herrero with the presentation of the special Francisco Pizarro award, and the awarding of all the handrails to the winners.
The audience that filled the hall showed their great satisfaction with what they enjoyed in the event and the rest of the sessions offered in this edition of CIMASUB.
From the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad de Fútbol, as organisers of CIMASUB, we would like to thank the schools that brought more than seven hundred children to enjoy the Txikiciclo organised by the Real Sociedad Fundazioa and the Aquarium during the week. Thanks to the large number of visitors we had during the three days of CIMASUB. Thanks to all the participants in the photography, short film and documentary competition, for surprising us every year with works that move us and transmit passion and talent, and make this Cycle even bigger and more special every year. And of course thanks to all our sponsors and collaborators for making our dream possible, because without them this Cycle could not exist.
We are proud to continue working to raise awareness of the seabed and to convey the message of respect and care for the marine environment.
One of the most special moments of the closing ceremony was the tribute and presentation of the Francisco Pizarro Award to the filmmaker Rafael Herrero. The award was presented by Paco Pizarro's granddaughters, Nora Zuñiga and Elsa Huércanos. Both of them dedicated some precious words to Rafa.
Javier Mendoza (President of the Gipuzkoa Federation of Underwater Activities), José Ignacio Espel (President of the Aquarium), Raúl Montañés (from the company WetSuitCare), Jaime Caballero (President of the Asociación Siempre Adelante, which supports those affected by ALS), Asier Olano (President of the Underwater Activities Section of the Real Sociedad de Fútbol), Maite Azkoaga (from the Real Sociedad Foundation), Jon Insausti (Councillor for Culture and Basque of the Donostia-San Sebastián City Council), and Mari Jose Tellería (Director of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa).
