The International Underwater Film Festival of Donostia - San Sebastian continues with its second session of CIMASUB 2023, promising an exciting adventure through the oceans of the world. This presentation of short films and documentaries will immerse us in the hidden wonders of the underwater world, from the crystal clear waters of Indonesia to the exotic coral reefs of Costa Rica.
CIMASUB will take us to Indonesia, where we will discover a haven for endangered creatures and experience the hope of a brighter future for the world's biodiversity. We will get to know the enigmatic Magic Triangle of the Philippines with "The magic triangle" by Alfred Schaschl (Austria), a Silver award-winning short film, where the boundaries between space and time fade away, challenging you to question your perception of reality.
The journey will continue in Kenya revealing the amazing marine life that inhabits the waters of Watamu, from majestic turtles to vibrant coral reefs. We will be able to feel a devastated future as a wake-up call about the importance of preserving our natural environment in the present with the work "La Moneda" by Manuel Blasco Medina (Alicante), winner of the Young Promise Award. In "Above & Below" by Antonia Maria Josefine Ackermans (The Netherlands), Special Jury Mention, we will learn about a project of environmental interest: On the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, two courageous individuals embark on the restoration of dying coral reefs. This story of inspiration and determination will remind you that individual action can make a difference in the midst of an environmental crisis.
We will travel to picturesque Malta and experience a love story that transcends time and the depths of the sea. In Florida, we'll meet a passionate community fighting to restore its waters and ecosystems threatened by the lionfish invasion. And in the Philippines, we will explore the surprising world of visual camouflage of marine creatures with the five-minute short film "Secret bay camouflage" by Vicente Leal Juan (Madrid), winner of the Silver award in short music films.
Finally, the Silver Handrail award in documentaries, "The future of the ocean" by Mario Cuesta Hernando (Spain), filmed in various locations in Spain, will immerse us in the struggle for the preservation of our oceans and highlight the importance of science in marine conservation.
The second session of the Donostia - San Sebastian International Underwater Film Festival is an invitation to explore, value and conserve the beauty and fragility of our oceans. Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this fascinating underwater world and discover the power of action and awareness in marine conservation.
