Educate to protect: The underwater Txikiziklo at the San Sebastian Aquarium
From November 10 to 14, the San Sebastián Aquarium will host one of the most notable activities of CIMASUB 2025: the Txikiziklo Submarino, an educational program designed to awaken in young people a love and respect for the oceans.
In this edition, nearly 500 primary school students, aged 10 to 12, from different schools in the city will participate in the event. Organized by the Real Sociedad Foundation and Subacuáticas Real Sociedad in collaboration with the Aquarium and the Mater Museoa, the main objective of the activity is to educate and raise awareness about the importance of conserving the marine environment.
During the Txikiziklo Submarino, students will be able to enjoy screenings of educational short films focusing on underwater biodiversity, climate change, and the protection of marine ecosystems. After each screening, experts in oceanography and conservation will share their experiences and explain the challenges and solutions for caring for our seas.
The experience is complemented by preparatory work in the classroom, using teaching materials provided by the organization. These preparatory activities encourage students to reflect on their relationship with the environment, promoting responsible habits and a conscious respect for nature. The goal is for education to transcend the classroom and translate into concrete actions in the daily lives of participants.
The Txikiziklo Submarino not only imparts knowledge, but also seeks to inspire children to become ambassadors for the ocean, capable of leading marine conservation initiatives in the future. By promoting environmental values from an early age, the program aims to shape a generation committed to protecting the planet and passionate about defending its seas.
In short, Txikiziklo Submarino is a unique opportunity to combine education, entertainment, and ecological awareness, planting the seed of a lasting commitment to the underwater world in the youngest members of society.
